Alexander Velev
Alexander Velev is Director General of the Bulgarian National Radio since May 2016. He has built most of his professional career in BNR, where he started working as a journalist in 1990. In the next years he held the positions of Chief Editor and Director of the News and Current Affairs Channel “Horizont”, as well as correspondent of BNR in the Republic of Macedonia. In 1998, at the age of 35, Alexander Velev was elected for his first term as Director General of BNR. Between 2005 and 2010 he continued working for BNR as correspondent in Serbia and Germany. Prior to his current appointment as the DG of BNR, Velev has also worked for the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Alexander Velev believes the public radio is an institution serving as a guarantee for the democracy. His mission is to develop a modern radio organization based on independence, credibility and innovation, which has the highest level of social trust and engages actively with the audience in order to provide even more valuable public service.
Mr. Velev enjoys spending his free time outside being active, cycling, hiking and skiing.
