Prof. Albrecht Hesse
Born in Göttingen, Germany in 1956, Albrecht Hesse studied law at Freiburg (Germany), Geneva (Switzerland) and London (U.K), and obtained his doctorate in state monopoly in telecommunication in 1983. He joined ARD as Legal Advisor in 1984, and also served as the assistant of Prof. Scharf, President of the European Broadcasting Union.
Between 1994 and 2005, Albrecht Hesse was also responsible for the protection of minors at ARD. He has been Legal Director of the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation, (ARD) since 1999, and has been appointed Deputy Director General in 2002. The Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation is a member of ARD, the network of public service broadcasters in Germany. Albrecht Hesse is in charge within ARD for constitutional matters relating to the organization of public service broadcasting and the sports rights acquisition. From 2005 to 2006 Albrecht Hesse was the chairman of ARD’s legal committee which is coordinating all legal matters within ARD.
Since 1986, Albrecht Hesse holds lectures at the Munich University on media law.
He has been appointed Honorary professor at the Munich University in 2003. He is author of numerous scientific works such as “Broadcasting Law“ (3rd edition), and board member of various scientific institutions.
