Professor Nicolae-Victor Zamfir
Professor Nicolae-Victor Zamfir is the General Director of the Horia Hulubei National Institute for R&D in Physics and Nuclear Engineering (IFIN-HH), president of the Romanian Physical Society and of the Physical Section of the Romanian Academy.
He graduated the Faculty of Physics in Bucharest in 1976 and was awarded Ph.D. in Nuclear Structure from the Central Institute of Physics, Bucharest, in 1984. His international experience includes the fields of scientific research and teaching in prestigious institutions such as the University of Cologne in Germany, Brookhaven National Laboratory and Yale University, in the USA.
Research activity conducted by Professor Zamfir has spanned a wide rande of topics in Nuclear Physics, Nuclear structure and Gamma-ray spectroscopy, being published in over 300 articles, with more than 5,000 citations and presented at more than 200 invited lecturers and contributions at International Conferences.
Since 2012 Nicolae-Victor Zamfir is the Director of Extreme Light Infrastructure – Nuclear Physics (ELI-NP), the most advanced research infrastructure in the world focusing on photonuclear physics studies and applications, which will be operational starting with 2019.
